Yang Ming Restaurant Warrior Sculpture gardenaccents

This majestic warrior measures 76″ H x 18.5″ W x 17.5″W.  The base is 16″ W x 22″ Deep. Weight is estimated at 600 lbs.

As many of you are aware, Yang Ming Restaurant in Bryn Mawr, PA closed its doors on February 3, 2020.  

Each and every patron entering the outer door was greeted by this Terracotta Warrior of the First Emperor, a reproduction sculpture in a grand scale that commands your attention. Yang Ming owner, Michael Wei, purchased this piece in Xi’an Province and shipped it to the United States 30 years ago just prior to opening his restaurant.

The material and construction details of the warrior will require an interior only placement. The central material is a sculptural hard plaster. 

Some history on the original Terracotta Warrior Army:

In 1974, Chinese farmers digging a well in the Shaanxi province in northwest China discovered, quite by accident, pieces of clay figures.  After scientists offered their expertise, their find led to the unearthing of 8,000 life-size clay soldiers preserved in near perfect condition. They were accompanied by wagons, horses, other bronze figures, and so much more.  The site has not yet been completely explored and excavated.

Emperor Qin Shi Huang – The First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty (221-207 BCE) ordered the construction of the warriors.  Zhang Han, a general, was the construction supervisor and Prime Minister, Li Si, was designer and director.

The entire project lasted 38 years and began when the Emperor took the throne at age 13. Preparing for the afterlife was paramount on his list of priorities. During the time he served, he also accomplished standardizing weights and measures and introduced a uniform writing script.
